Mwazaro Mangrove Lodge is situated at the coast of the Shimoni Peninsula, 14 km from the border of Tanzania. On a street made of asphalt, at about 70 km south of Mombasa, in the direction of Lunga Lunga, there is a left diversion to the "Highway to Shimoni". After about 8 km you will be able to see the sign of Mwazaro Beach. Turn right there and after 1 km you will reach Magical Mwazaro.
The cottages made of palm fronds are built in the white sand and offer - just like all accommodations at Mwazaro Beach - a beautiful view at the sea. Inside, depending on the cottage, 1 to 3 wooden beds with fresh white sheets are to be found. Mosquito nets protect you from annoying insects. Every one of the 10 cottages has got its own veranda with comfortable deck chairs and, for pleasant refreshment, cold water is running from an old Venus shell. Between the cottages, there are separate cottages with showers. A kerosene-lamp gives you a cosy atmosphere. There is indeed no electric light here. You can just feel like Robinson did!
All rooms in the new built Coral Houses have got their own bathroom, with fresh running hot and cold water and light. We are only using solar and wind energy. Every room is lovely and individually decorated, with antique furniture made from Lamu and Zanzibar. The big comfortable four-poster beds have got mosquito nets. The rooms at the first floor give pleasant cool air. They have got their own terrace, which are calm and are right next to the beach. The rooms at the second floor have got a balcony and a separate terrace at the roof of the cottage. Only up there it is possible to experience the best sunsets in Kenya. While your are taking a shower, you have, through the big window in the bathroom, a fabulous view over the Mangrove Forrest. Unforgettable!
Far away from animation, television and radio there is enough time for a game of Chess or Backgammon. With always the sound of the ocean in the background, you can just enjoy the cosy atmosphere and find the calm to read an exciting book. A camper from Canada grasps his guitar and everybody starts to sing a multicultural song. Close to the fireplace you can hear about adventures that happened to everyone here in Africa.
